j.scales is a shapeshifter: poet, photographer, musician, & more – a healerartist.
j is most proud of 3 most recent accomplishments:
~writing & producing their first ever solo show for capital fringe, “mostly the VOICE: a black lesbian journey” (2015)
~playing percussion for be steadwell’s QTBIPOC musical, “a letter to my ex” (2018-2019)
~releasing “stay inside” on soundcloud, & continuing to work on queer quarantine projects, while simultaneously staying sane & re-creating themselves in the midst of a worldwide pandemic (2020)
j. has aspirations of releasing a book of poetry later this year, and also aims to catalog and curate the rare audio archives of select WITL & mothertongue events in the early 2000’s; as the unofficial sound engineer for many events during this era, j’s personal archive includes many voices, both published and unpublished, who graced the open mics. in the spiritual realm of things, j. also has aspirations of reconnecting with their (hidden) identity as certified breathologist and reiki III master …to help heal the black LGBTQIA+ community through compassionate connection.
